Lan Yan made her debut in the Genshin Impact 5.3 banner. She’s a 4-star Anemo character who can provide shields, convert elements and boost damage absorption for those elements. In this Lan Yan build guide, you’ll find the best ways to build her, covering Talents, Weapons, Artifacts, and Team Comps.
Introduction of Lan Yan
Lan Yan’s a pro at the Chenyu Vale Artisans Association, and she’s awesome at making all kinds of rattan crafts. Her shields are just as tough as her work. When they hit different elements, they change element type, which helps them resist breaking from those elements. Besides, she has talents that can heal her shield, making her a solid shielder. Since her shield’s strength is based on her ATK, she can also deal some damage, making her perfect for quick swaps.
Talents Priority of Lan Yan
A = Normal Attack, E = Elemental Skill, Q = Elemental Burst
Priority recommendations are E > Q > A.
-
Elemental Skill (E): This is Lan Yan’s core talent. When you use E skill, she dashes forward and summons a shield. You can hold it to adjust the dash direction.
-
Elemental Burst (Q): Q skill is her main way of damage. It deals Anemo damage to enemies and pulls them in, making it great for AoE damage.
-
Normal Attack (A): With normal attacks, Lan Yan can hit up to four times with Anemo damage. After a charged attack, she throws the Feathermoon Ring, dealing more Anemo damage.
Best Weapons for Lan Yan
For Strong Shield
-
Skyward Atlas: A high base stat weapon, and the sub-stat can boost ATK. It also helps improve the team’s overall survivability.
-
Flowing Purity: An easy-to-get, low-cost weapon from Fontaine’s craftable diagram. It’s perfectly fine at R1 for use.
Increase Team’s Damage
-
Favonius Codex: Generates extra energy particles on critical hits, helping recharge energy for other characters in the team.
-
Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers: Easy to get. Boosts the ATK of the next character that enters the field.
-
Sacrificial Fragments(R5): Resets the cooldown of the Elemental Skill, increasing the shield’s uptime. This is especially useful for Lan Yan if she’s below C6.
Best Artifacts for Lan Yan
Best-suited Artifact Set
-
2-Piece Set: Anemo DMG Bonus +15%
-
4-Piece Set: Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent's Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s.
Lan Yan’s recommended artifact set is Viridescent Venerer, which takes advantage of her Anemo element. It provides a 40% resistance shred, boosting the team’s overall damage and enhancing Lan Yan’s support role. For main stats, ATK is the go-to, and for sub-stats, prioritize ATK% > ATK > Energy Recharge.
If you want to build Lan Yan as a DPS, the main stats should be ATK/Elemental Mastery + Anemo DMG Bonus + Crit Rate/Crit DMG.
Transition Artifact
You can opt for a 2-Piece Set with ATK as the main stat, using a 2+2 setup. This boosts your ATK by up to 32% while also increasing the shield’s strength. It’s a way to maximize the shield's effectiveness.
Best Team Comps for Lan Yan
Lan Yan has a lot of teammate options, and she fits well into any team that needs interruption resistance. However, she pairs especially well with characters who focus on Normal Attacks for damage, like Arlecchino or Clorinde.
Bennett is also one of her best teammates. You can take advantage of the shield-locking feature, for example, by having Lan Yan release her shield within Bennett’s Burst range, which will increase the shield’s strength.
Vaporize Team
-
Main DPS: Arlecchino / Yoimiya
-
Sub DPS: Yelan / Xingqiu
-
Support: Bennett
-
Shielder: Lan Yan
In the Vaporize Team, Lan Yan can replace Zhongli, preventing Zhongli from being used in the second team. Since both Arlecchino and Yoimiya are Normal Attack-based DPS characters, Lan Yan with C2 can continuously restore shield absorption, ensuring a safe environment for the main DPS. If Lan Yan carries Viridescent Venerer, she can also resist shred, boosting the output of the DPS characters.
Aggravate Team
-
Main DPS: Clorinde / Keqing
-
Sub DPS: Fischl
-
Buffing Support: Nahida
-
Shielder: Lan Yan
In the Aggravate Team, The damage in this team mainly comes from elemental reactions. First, the Electro character applies the Electro status, then switches to Lan Yan to shield, followed by switching to Natasha for her QE combo, and finally, switches back to the main DPS to continue the sustained damage output.
On-field Lan Yan but F2P
Lan Yan can actually serve as an on-field DPS, and the weapon can use The Widsith.
The first teammate is Xingqiu, providing Hydro damage; the second is Fischl, offering Electro damage; and the fourth can be Ororon, with Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City to trigger Electro-Charged and boost Hydro-Electro damage for the whole team. This team focuses on Hydro-Electro direct damage, not Electro-Charged damage, and doesn’t prioritize Elemental Mastery.
Here’s the suggested damage rotation: After Xingqiu's QE(A), switch to Ororon for E, then Fischl for E(A), and finally, switch to Lan Yan for EA to keep up Normal Attacks while on-field.
Conclusion
As a 4-star character, the higher her Constellation, the better. Lan Yan’s key Constellations are at C2, C4, and C6. However, even at C0, she works well with the support from Viridescent Venerer.
With the Lantern Rite event, there will be an option to choose a 4-star Liyue character for free, which is a great opportunity to get Lan Yan. Want to get more Genesis Crystals for less money?
